Deep Amazon Rainforest Kayaking in Ecuador
Day 1 - Flight to Coca & Kayaking Challuayaku
Today we catch a morning flight to Coca town and begin our Amazon adventure trip. We take a scenic drive to the Challuayaku River at the entrance of the Challuayaku Reserve, and while the guides prepare our gear, we enjoy a riverside lunch. Our first kayaking expedition will be paddling down this fantastic river surrounded by nature and wildlife into the Amazon rainforest. After a long day of travel, we settle into our lodge and enjoy a delicious gourmet meal. Accommodation: Amazon Lodge - Meals included: Lunch & dinner.Day 2 - Challuacocha Lake & Observation Tower
After breakfast, we continue our Amazon kayaking exploration, heading deeper into the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle. Every day in the Amazon is a new adventure, the more we paddle, the more pristine and wild the jungle becomes. We will also take hikes to learn more about local plants and their medicinal properties. In the late afternoon, we head to an observation tower built around a 500-year-old Ceiba tree where to look over the Amazon Canopy. After breakfast, we start navigating by canoe down the Napo River to reach the entrance of the Pañyucu River to get to Pañacocha Lake, a part of the reserve with the same name managed by Kichwa communities. We paddle the lagoon in our kayaks surrounded by nature, our goal is to see the pink dolphin, while kayaking is possible to see kingfishers, jacamars, trogons, potoos, hoatzin, anis, terns, hawks, and eagles. We will also keep an eye out for monkeys and identify the tropical plants that populate the bank. We spend the evening in our jungle lodge. Today we paddle across the lake through the Chorongo Path to the primary forest of the Challaucocha Reserve, here we will meet a Kichwua family that will teach us about medicinal plants, taste edible fruits and insects, and learn how to weave traditional palm-fiber bags, Also the importance of the ecotourism projects in their economy and help them develop a health center and schools. This is the best way to see the impact our visit has in this communities and the way we are supporting them. Accommodation: Amazon Jungle Lodge - Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.Day 5 - Parrot Clay Lick & Return
This is an early morning because we want to get to the clay lick as early as possible. It is one of our best adventures in the jungle, visiting the Lamederos or Saladeros. Such places are unique in the Amazon rainforest because they offer a great chance to see a wide range of Amazon wildlife species. Later we will take a canoe ride to return to Coca town and take our flight back to Quito in the afternoon.
