This tour takes you right out of modern society and sends you into one of the most remote corners of the indigenous community. The Huaorani tribe is an indigenous group of people native to a small part of Ecuador's Amazonia. The community has a population of just 3000 individuals who speak a language not related to any other in the world. This trip will acquaint you with their way of life in the most hands-on way possible, allowing you to practice preparing their traditional cuisine and participate in their customs and daily rituals. Huaorani Expedition Trip in Ecuador
Day 1 - Arrival Day
Welcome to Quito! The biggest, best-preserved colonial city of America home of ancient churches and plazas. The city is considered the Cultural Capital of South America. In the evening, one of our trip leaders will meet you at the hotel for a welcome briefing and there will be plenty of time to discuss details and answer any questions you may have regarding the Amazon adventure trip to come. Accommodation at Mercure Hotel.Day 2 - Flight into Huaorani Territory
Early in the morning, we will be transferred by car to the airport in Shell, and then take a flight of about 1 hour to Bohanamo in the Huaorani territory. Here we will be welcome by one of the most remote tribes of the Amazon region, we will organize our campsite and later we will visit the chief of this Huaorani community and learn about their way of living. Meals included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. Accommodation Camping at Huaorani Territory.Day 3 - Clay Lick & Piranha Fishing
Today is a very important highlight of this Amazon expedition because our local guide will lead a hike into the virgin forest together with Huaorani community members, this trail will take us to the clay lick, and where with some luck we could see jaguar tracks. Along the trail we will also learn about many different species of medicinal plants that are very important in the daily life of the Huaoranies. In the afternoon, we will learn about the arts of blowgun hunting from Huaoranies themselves and then try to catch piranhas in the nearby river, they will show us what they do in their spare time always living in peace with the Amazon jungle and also tell us more about their ancestors and beliefs, a unique and amazing day in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest and together with an real ancient indigenous tribe, a experience you do not want to miss. Meals included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. Accommodation Camping at Huaorani territory.Day 4 - Anaconda Lagoon, Bameno
After breakfast with the Huaorani members, we will take a motorized canoe for 2 hours down the Cononaco River in deep Ecuadorian jungle, they will show us how they navigate these pristine waters surrounded by nothing but nature, then we will go through the primary forest for a short walk untill we reach an amazing lagoon, here we will paddle a small boat try to find the anacondas, all of this together with our Huaorani tribe members who are of course real experts at moving inside this jungle. In the afternoon, we go back up the river to Bameno for lunch and visit Kempery the legendary shaman part of the community, we will share with them at their local houses and hear about their traditions, lives, culture and gastronomy. At night we will go for a night hike exploration to learn about the sounds of the jungle and more of Huaorani traditions. Meals included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. Accommodation Camping.Day 5 - Jaguar Tracks
Today we will hike though the virgin jungle with the Huaorani warriors and learn more about their survival skills, along the way we will have the chance to view wildlife and follow the jaguar tracks, they will show us how they haunt for survival and how the men and women have different tasks in their daily activities. In the late afternoon, we will search for caimans and other river wildlife. Meals included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. Accommodation Camping.Day 6 - Flight back to Shell
After breakfast, we will say good bye to the Huaorani community members and take the last pictures with them, we will then take a plane to Shell, and then transfer by car back to the city of Quito. On the way we have an optional stop in Baños to see the most impressive waterfalls of Ecuador. Among them the Devil's Cualdron, huge waterfall surrounded by ancient rocks.
